Definition
Chess games may be timed, which controls the length of a game.
Players agree on the total amount of time that each player has to move in a game. For example, each player may have 45 minutes to complete the game. A chess clock is used to keep track of the cumulative amount of time that each player has used up. If one player runs out of time before a checkmate then that player automatically loses the game.
