Definition

An interview is a two-party interaction with one party intentionally asking questions for the other party to answer.

Types of Interviews include:

  • Information-Gathering.
    • As an interviewer, you ask questions to gain information.
    • As an interviewee, you answer questions to share information you know.
  • Career Research.
    • An an interviewer, you ask questions that will help you define and achieve your career goals.
    • As an interviewee, you answer questions that will give career guidance.
  • Employment.
    • As an interviewer, you ask questions to explore how well a candidate might fit the open job position.
    • As an interviewee, you answer the interviewer's question but also ask questions for clarity and gain understanding of what the job entails and what would be required of you should you be offered and accept the offer.
  • Performance Appraisal
    • As an interviewer, you ask questions pertaining to the quality of a subordinate's performance, their successes, their problems, and their needs.
    • As an interviewee, you answer questions to help your superior identify gaps that need to be addressed and/or improved. You also ask questions for clarity and understanding of what you need to do to improve.
