Decoy

Decoy means using a sacrifice to force the opponent's piece to move to a poisoned or dangerous square.

In this example, the white pawn at g4 is sacrificed to the black king. The black king has to capture the pawn in order to get out of check. The result is that the black king is then in position to be checkmated by the white queen!
